In 2014, Kesha was sued by producer Dr. Luke (real name Lukasz Gottwald) who claimed that Kesha had made up rape allegations against him to get out of a recording contract.
Their lawyers said that he "sexually, physically, verbally, and emotionally abused [Kesha] to the point that [she] nearly lost her life," so she filed suit against him in 2014 to get out of their contract.
Kesha claimed that Gottwald had drugged and raped her on two separate occasions, which were included in the charges of abuse.
On July 19th, a trial was scheduled to commence. After a New York appeals court concluded that Dr. Luke is a public figure.
Increasing the producer's burden of proof that he had been defamed, the two parties agreed to settle out of court.
They "agreed to issue and post a joint statement regarding that resolution," according to the Instagram post that included quotes from both parties.
Kesha said in a statement, "Only God knows what happened that night," adding, "As I have always said, I cannot recount everything that happened."
Grammy-winning producer Dr. Luke, whose credits include songs by Katy Perry, Avril Lavigne, and Flo Rida, expressed relief at being able to "put this difficult matter behind me and move on with my life."
As much as I appreciate Kesha's reiteration of her inability to recall what transpired on that fateful night in 2005, I am confident that nothing of the such occurred.
I never did anything to her like that, and I never would. He went on, "I have worked hard for nearly a decade to clear my name for the sake of my family.
